By Patti Lamb

The main ingredient for aromatherapy is the oil from the plant, that is the essential or essence of the plant. There are close to 100 essential oils. This is coupled with other ingredients that make the scent complete. Such things include, herbs, sea salts, muds and clays. All ingredients in true aromatherapy are natural. Synthetics or commercial fragrances are discouraged.
The primary way of using aromatherapy is very simple. The oils are inhaled into the body through the oil being burned and placed in a position where the body inhales them deeply. Oils tend to have an impact on both the body and spirit. Depending on the oil you use you will get a different impact. Additionally you can apply some of the oils directly to the skin.
